Question
MY teddy bear hamster who is a female is getting bigger and bigger around her stomach and i dont believe she is pregnate and she is having large amounts of either urine, diarehha, vomit, or discharge, that is a cloudy white thin fluid. Her tail isnt wet which would rule out wet tail and has been a little more iritable with her sister. What do you think it is?

Answer
hi amber,
the cloudy white liquid is more than likely just urine. hamster's pee is normall white and cloudy. however the swelling is a bit concerning. how old is she? and how long have you had her? has she ever been in contact with a male hamster? if so pregnancy is a possibility, however it is extremely unlikely if she hasn't.
it may be wise to take her to the vets to have a urine test as the swelling could be a problem with her kidneys.
vets can do a lot for hamsters these days. they can provide courses of treatment such as antibiotics which generaly clear up many probems. they can also do urine tests to check for blood in the urine which could indicate an internal problem such as kidney trouble.
if she isn't registered with a vet don't worry. you can usually get an appointment straight away ad have her registered on the same day.
if she is more irritable with her sister it may just be that she is wanting more time to herself. usually hamsters are solitary creatures that like their own space. they are also very territorial and don't generaly like sharing their house with other hamsters even their siblings. normally hamsters are tolerant of each other when they are babies but may start showing signs of aggression towards each other as they get older. if you've had them together for a while then you are lucky. i'm guessing they are stll relatively young, however they may need seperating if they start to reject each other. just keep an eye on them. you'll know if you need to put them in seperate cages. it may be wise to seperate them anyway if one of them is possibly sick so the other one doesn't pick anything up.
meanwhile get your 'rounding' hamster to the vets and get her checked out.
hope this helps. thanks for your question, jewel
