Sirian hamster Wodge

Question
Hi Kelly
I hope you don't read this and think I'm insane!!!.........I got my Syrian hamster 'Wodge' a few months ago when he was just weeks old.  He has come along absolutely fantastic and has grown lots (that's because he gets spoiled with treats all the time!).  However, I have noticed that he has huge testicles.  These are noticed from behind him and are so big they sometimes drag along the ground.  Can you let me know if you have come across this, if it is natural, and the biggest thing - does this require us to get him a female companion??  The thing I worry about is, when I purchased him I was advised that he should be alone - hamsters don't like company (other hamsters) and are not lonely creatures.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Fiona

Answer
Hi Fiona,

Nope, you're definitely not insane :)  I actually get this question quite a bit, because people don't think that their hamsters' testicles should be that big.  But, when a male hamster matures, his testicles will grow larger.  It's completely normal.  And, when he is in old age, they will be even larger, and, more than likely, dragging the ground.

Also, the advice you were given is right - Syrian hamsters can't live together.  They would fight violently because living in pairs goes against their nature.  (Syrian hamsters don't live together in the wild, either.)  They're perfectly happy just having a human companion :)

Have a great day!

If you have any other questiosn, please feel free to ask :)
