The babies are BORN!!!

Hello! I'm Kiana I have 3 female hamsters and 1 male. 1 female and the male mated a few weeks ago, now it's 9:46 and I just looked at my hamster and theres 9 little babies! I'm freaking out!!! It is my first experience with babies. I gace her fresh water,a full dish of seeds + vegies and I took out her exercise wheel. When I looked at her she was in her castle and the babies were all by themselfs in the open!!! Will she take care of them? Will they live? I know you only answer questions on breeding but theres no-one els who can help!!!!

Hi Kiana,

    Most important thing is do not touch the babies. If Mom smells your scent on them, she may reject them. You also need to start feeding her pieces of hard boiled egg along with what you are already giving her. This will give her the extra protein she needs to help raise the babies. The other two females and the male should be put in another cage so that Mom will not be disturbed and hopefully start taking care of her babies. Some hamster Moms, with their first litter, will abandon them or eat them, this is normal behavior. Without Mom to take care for them, the babies will not survive.
