Question
I was wondering how to tell what kind of breed my girly hamster is I bought her from the mall but when I asked the breed she just said a regular hamster, and me not knowing anything figured ok, but when I looked online there seems to be only a few kinds of hamsters,do you know how I would find out what breed she is? Thank you. I also wanted to let you know I spent hours last night reading alot of your questions and answers and you helped me alot on knowing about hamsters a lil more than I did yesterday, so Thank you for helping us hamster owners that love these cudly lil creatures and don't know the first clue in taking care of them..

Answer
Hi.
A regular hamster is just a made up name, but I would guess he is a Syrian (or Golden) hamster, even if he is not gold coloured.
Here is a couple of pictures of a Syrian hamster to compare:

Syrian hamsters can be any colour more or less.
He may also be a Russian hamster, which are smaller. here's a couple of pictures of them:

Roborovoski hamsters are much like Russian hamsters. Here's a couple of pictures of them:

As I said, he is probably a Syrian hamster, but the pictures  will probably help you. If you still are not sure, feel free to email me on kathrynhaldane@yahoo.co.uk with a picture of her, and I'll get back to you.
Good luck with looking after her,
Kathryn

P.S. Please feel free to ask me any other questions you have about her.
