gerbil disoriented and bleeding ear

Yesterday I noticed my two year old gerbil was disoriented and had a sealed right eye.  Today, he is still disoriented his jowles seem swollen and his right ear is bleading. Sound familiar?

Hi Kristy,

It sounds like your gerbil has had a stroke (which is actually fairly common among older gerbils).  He may have brain damage, which would explain the disorientation.  I would recommend that you take him to the vet as soon as possible.  Your vet can decide what course of action you should take (as far as treatment).  Until then, try your best to keep him comfortable.  Give him extra bedding and make sure his food and water are close by.
