gerbil vs hamster

Question
Hey,
I am interested in getting something furry and sweet, with a minimum of smells.  I have heard that gerbils are less likely to stink and bite less often than hamsters.  I would like to be able to hand train them some, but am used to working with birds more.
Any opinion as to which would be best, hamster or gerbil?
How old should they be when we get them?
Should they be alone in with litter mates?
Thanks so much for your time.

My name is Hannah. I found your question in the question pool, and I think I can help you.
I would reccomend getting a hamster. Teddybear hamsters are nicest in my opinion. Hamsters can be kept alone, and I reccomend getting them older than 4-5 weeks.
