Squeaking Chinese Dwarf Hamsters

Question
Hi, was just wondering. I have 2 healthy chinese dwarf hamsters, who live fine together and never fight. The only thing I do notice about them is they make alot of squeeking and bubbling noises. I bought them a new house the other day, and they both dived in it, digging around and squeeking like crazy, so I think it may be that their possibly happy or excited. Was just wondering if this was correct or it was because of some other reason. They both eat fine, and exercise every night.

Cheers

Glyn

Answer
Dear Glyn,
thank you for your question.
I recommend seeing a rodent vet with your hamsters, the squeaking may be a sign of a respiratory infection, which can turn into a chronic illness if not treated. Hamsters are silent animals and shouldn't make any noise at all (unless they fight, are really angry or in pain, they do squeak or chatter their teeth then).
Here you can find a list of US rodent vets:

I hope I was of some help to you
