QuestionMy teddy bear hamster had a litter of 8 babies about 3 weeks ago. The mother is taking very good care of the babies and they are growing well. However, I am not sure how long they are suppose to stay with the mother. I know that if I take them away too early, it can be dangerous for their health. I also have heard the the mother hamster may eat the baby hamsters at some point if they are not separated. Please tell me when the right time is to separate the mother from the babies, I want to do the safest thing for the baby hamsters!!
Thank you!!

AnswerNow that they are three weeks old, they should be seperated from their mother. Make sure the boy babies and the girl babies are also seperated, this is because they can breed at this young age, which is very bad for their health.
Thanks for writing, I am glad to see that you are concerned about your hamsters, keep up the good job.
