Question
Okay My hamsters about 1 and a half years old and she is a dwarf hamster. One day i was playing with her and there was like 3 maggots in her cage. It really scared me,so I immediatley put her in a box with a lid and she can't get out. I noticed I WAS OUT OF BEDDING IN ORDER to clean her cage. So today i'm getting some more. I'm going to clean her cage very very very well. I'm also going to check her food to make sure there are no maggots in that. If there is none im going to put the food in a coffee can and shut the lid and stuff. Do i need to take her to the vet or anything? I'm willing to do anything to make her better! Please respond quickily!

Answer
You probably don't need to take her to the vet. Flies lay their eggs on any thing that rots. This includes fruits or vegetables, human or animal waste, flesh, or trash. Make sure any fruits or vegetables left in the cage are taken out by the end of the day, thoroughly clean the cage weekly (take it apart and wash it with warm soap and water), check for any open wounds, and make sure there is no rotting garbage around the cage.
