Question
Hi,
my daughter just got a hamster from a large petstore.  It is not a dwart hamster or a teddy bear hamster.  It is silvery grey and has short hair.  I am wondering what type of hamster it is?  They said it was a "grey bear hamster" but I cannot find such a breed on the internet at all.  Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Taylor

Answer
Hello, I've never heard of a grey bear hamster, but they come up with new types of teddy bear hamsters all the time. I call black bear, honey bear and dalmation hamsters, teddy bear hamsters just because they are supposed to be more mild in temperate. That's not always true though, but I do like them better than the regular short hair and long hair hamsters. In reality there are really just long haired or short haired hamsters. The teddy bear hamsters all belong to the short haired family. People just decide that they are a special type because of their fur color. In reality I'd call your hamster a grey short haired hammie. :-)
