Thank you for the kind, influential words, John.  Loosing a fuzzy "kid" is the toughest thing imaginable.  I recently lost my big boy SCSI, also to a heart condition.  He went fast, which is the best way to go, though it left an empty void in my heart.  I will always miss him, and while no ferret can ever replace him, I also understand that the memories will remain.

It is so wonderful that you found consolation in little Sally and her youngins.  Sometimes, things like that are just meant to be, and although Snert is gone and no ferret will ever be the same, there is always new life and laughs to find. Enjoy what you have and what comes to you, and although you will never forget Snert, he would want you to be happy and enjoy your new-found friends.

As far as a companion for Sally, it is an excellent idea but it should wait until the kits are older.  Either find another ferret for her, or simply keep one of her babies (obviously do NOT breed her if you keep a male kit!  It would be best to get her spayed and him castrated if you do to prevent any accidents!).  In my opinion ferrets do better with a friend or two, but wait until her babies are older (at least 12 weeks) or gone to their new homes.

Again, thank you for this heart-felt letter. I think I needed this more than anyone right now, since I miss my boy dearly.  He is not the first ferret I've had pass, nor will he be the last.  I hope another enters my life as serendipitously as Sally and her kits did for you.  Thank you John, I cannot say enough about how you words helped me in my recent loss of my "baby".  I will pass on your heart-felt words to any who have recently lost their "fuzzy" and I hope tey may find the same consolation I have.

Many thanks,

-Cindy P.
