Answer
Hi Emily and Cocoa,

I wouldn't give a ferret a bath in baby oil, ever. They already have a wealth of oils that their skin releases and that is where the musky smell comes from. If you need to wash your ferret, a shampoo formulated for ferrets, a shampoo formulated for kittens or Johnson's Baby Shampoo NO TEARS work the best. I wouldn't wash a ferret in anything else but those three things.

Also, a ferret shouldn't really be bathed that much anyway. When you bathe a ferret, those oils in their skin are stripped, which means that their skin goes into overdrive trying to produce those oils and you get more of that musky smell than you had before. You should really only bathe a ferret when that ferret gets into something sticky or messy. Our kids only get baths a few times a year (unless they get into something and make a big mess of themselves). So, if you must bathe your ferret, use a ferret, kitten, or Johnson's Baby NO TEARS formula shampoo and remember, you don't (and shouldn't) bathe a ferret that often anyway!

I hope this answers your question and if you need anything else, please don't hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Emilee Andrews
