Short Tie

My Labrador is serving as stud with a bitch. It is both their first time. On the first day she flagged and he mounted and locked very briefly (less than a minute). ON day two he tried again but did not penetrate at all and on the third day (today) he tried very little. We are thinking that she may be coming out of her heat (would have been a very short heat) which would explain is decreasing interest. Is it also possible that he already bred her in that very short tie? (I know growing up, it didn't take the family mut very long to get bred when the neighbor's dog jumped the fence).

By the way, thank you for your advice to work with a mentor when you are starting out as a breeder. This is my first entrance into this and I am working with a great breeder who is teaching me a lot.

It's great to work with a mentor who can show you the ropes.

He may have some success although, the first part of the sperm is kind of "waste", you want the "middle" stuff.

What day in her heat cycle is she?  If it's a short heat, it's possible it could be a split heat or pre heat and come in again in a few weeks.  I would recommend a progesterone test to make sure.
