Question
i have a pug that has recently whent into heat, she is almost 2 years old, and a male boston terrier that is trying to mate but it seams he is a little to tale. will he figure things out on his own and is he old enough he will be a year old this july.

Answer
Usually a male will breed by instinct -- if he's a first-timer than obviously he's at a disadvantage but will soon figure out how to manage. Your female may not yet be in the fertile portion of her cycle & if not, may not be terribly cooperative at this time. Generally the estrus or fertile part of the cycle begins around day 9 or 10 from the initial onset. A male is sexually mature around 6 to 7 months of age so he's fully capable of breeding. It will just take some practice on his part.
