1day old lab puppies

Question


My lab had just given birth to 5 pups.They were all healthy but the next day my son and I went to check on them and be noticed that 1 of them was making a crying sound and her tongue was sticking out of her mouth a little.We put her back closer to mom who licked her and I thought everything was fine.We came back in about 10 minutes later and she had died.I'm just sick about this.Was there something I could have,should have noticed when we first came in? I tried gently blowing into her mouth and tried massaging her little body but to no avail.What did I do wrong.Did she somehow get moms milk into her lungs and suffocated? It's driving me crazy thinking about the pup and what I should have done.

Sounds like she was possibly stepped on. It happens. Make sure your dog has a large enough whelping box, and pig rails to keep her from rolling on the pups. Make sure she has enough milk for babies and that they are warm, nursing and full,
sometimes you just lose them :( Sometimes there was something wrong with the pup at birth and mom just doesn't take care of them because of that. I'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately it is part of breeding and raising a litter.
