De-worming a Bitch who is nursing puppies

Question
I was just browsing the quetions and answers and came across one answer that I would like to ask for some clarification on.
A person asked if the can still de-worm and pregnant bitch.
you said it is best to de-worm the mom when the puppies are 1st given de-wormer. My question is... If a person gives the mom & puppies de-wormer while they are still nursing wont that make them sick as they will get some of it in moms milk?
This is what I was told. I always de-worm the puppies and then do mom after they are weaned.

Thanks a lot!

Answer
Cristen,

These is more then one person that answers questions in this forum. I am not sure if you are referring to a question that I previously answered or another "expert" on the breeding forum.

To answer your question, the bitch can be de-wormed during the entire pregnancy and during the entire time that she is nursing the puppies. De-worming the bitch will not make the puppies sick. However, you should not begin de-worming the puppies until they are at least 4 weeks old. So to make sense of what you say you do, I personally do the opposite. I de-worm the bitch during pregnancy and nursing and wait to de-worm the puppies once they are 4 weeks old.

I hope this answers or clarifies the question that you asked. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask whenever you have a chance to.
