Two different rotties

Question
Hello and goodmorning...

As you are familiar with rottweilers, I wonder if you can help me with a particular problem I have with my male.  I got him from a Rottie rescue over a year ago.  He is an extremely loveable big lug and has bonded well with my other rottie (that I've raised from a puppy).  I am still trying to housetrain him.  He still tends to pee in the house - a habit I can't seem to break him of - even though he is extremely remorseful everytime he does it....I feel perhaps he is doing it for the attention...my female has bone cancer and although I try not to show more affection to her - its hard knowing that soon I won't have her around.  Someone had suggested crating him but I would like to know what else I could try.  ALso....the other problem I will have is when the female is no longer around...He is close to her (most people think they are siblings)....I know eventually I will have to get him a companion but I also know he needs that time with me alone in the future....He has a wonderful personality (well they both do)...I would really like to break him of the habit before he drives me crazy.   Much as they both drive me crazy at times, I wouldn't trade the two of them for anything....and probably in time, I'lll get a rottie companion for him.

Any suggestions you could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks for your response.

Answer
Way to go on getting a rescue.  They are some of the best pets.  Our current rottie is a female from rescue.  She came to us about 3yrs ago.
I'm assuming that since you got him from a rescue he has been neutered?!  So we know it isn't a territorial thing.  Crateing is a wonderful way to train.  However, there is one other option you could try that might work if you do not want to use the crate route.  Look online for large breed belly bands.  These are made for males that like to hike on things to mark and etc.  It is simply a band that would go all the way around his waist and a pad is inserted into it in the area where his penis is.  What this does is when he hikes to pee it will all go on the pad.  Kinda like a diaper.  He isn't going to like that each time he hikes the wetness stays.  So he will eventually learn "when I hike I get wet" and he will stop.  Or he should stop.  Of course you should change it each time he wets it.  It may take a while before he learns but if you stick with it, this sounds like it might be a good option for you.  I've seen some belly bands that are adorable.  Some are made to look like Tuxedos.  :)  They aren't very expensive and are reuseable.  Hope this helps.  Please do feel free to email me anytime.
