Question
My son-in-law has a history of being allergic to cats and also to my daughter's Laborador Retriever.  However, he was not allergic to my dog who was part Lab and part Irish terrier.  I now have rescued a 5-year old Bassett hound who is marvelous with children - will my son-in law be allergic to this dog?  He has had very little contact with it thus far.  But I am concerned because they will be staying with us some weekends this wintger.

Answer
Hi,
I believe he will be allergic.   The Irish terrier and most of the wire coated terrier breeds donot have the undercoat that labs, and bassets have.   so tell you son in law to up the claritin before he visits.  Also getting your dog a good bath and blow dry with a high velocity dryer,  such as Petsmart has, will also help remove alot of the dander and hair.
good luck
