Blood in penis

My English bull dog has blood coming out of his penis.  Any thoughts?  Is this serious?

Hi Rufus,

Your dog might be having a infection in his urethra (the tube through which urine flows), or it may be prostate disease.  Bloody discharge in male dogs can also be caused by an injury to the penis or some other part of the urinary tract leading to the hemorrhage.

If your dog is walking oddly (as if he's on eggshells), standing in an odd posture, or straining to either urinate or defecate it would mean that he is also in pain.

Your next step should be to have your dog examined by your veterinarian. You can't self treat this.
