QuestionI had my 3 year old chih./min. pin. spayed and vaccinated on Friday 4/13. On Monday, 4/16 she started coughing a lot. It's now Tuesday night and she is still coughing a lot. Could she have gotten kennel cough from the vets? how long before symptoms would appear? Could it be a reaction to the vaccinations or anesthesia? Should I be taking her back to the vet right away?
AnswerHi Denise,
Yes, it sounds like kennel cough. It will go away on its own, but I think it runs about a three week course.
It could also be a reaction from the tubing that was put in her throat when she was spayed. If I were you, I would call the Vet to see what they advise. Chihuahua type dogs are so small, that I don't want to recommend anything over the counter. I don't think you need to take her back, just call and see if they recommend anything that you could do.
God Bless,
Becky
