Question
I have two female beagles named Zoe and Holly. They are 3 and 4 years old. I tried to train them as puppies, but it never seemed to work. So now, they live in a pen in the laundry room.(Like a baby pen). We have a fairly large yard with an electric fence for the dogs. It works well for them. Basically, I have two questions for you.
1. Is there anyway I can still house train Zoe and Holly so they can roam the house without having accidents or ruining the house?
2. Do you have any tips on getting Zoe and Holly to lose weight?

Answer
Hi Casey;
Yep, teach them where they are sopposed to go, and where they are NOT supposed to go, and make it stick.
I have only had one Beagle, and she was the hardest dog I ever housetrained, or trained, period. She was a bull headed little thing, and she wanted her own way.
After they eat, take them outside and get them active to stimulate their bowels. Wheh they go, praise them like they are the smartest dogs in the world.
Wheh they have a mishap in the house, scold them, and really chew them out. While you are cleaning it up, nage them about it.
After they eat, shortly they wil have to have a bowel movement. When they go, make sure you stay out a little longer and make sure they have finished.
Sometimes they will go some, and 5 to 15 minutes later., go some more ( if they are trying to save some to go indoors).
After they wake, they have to empty their bladers right away, and shortly ater they have a drink.
You have to be very diligent in watching for them to sqwat to go, and getting them outside. If they are determined enough,m they will go to another room to try a pee before you get in there.
They can be sneaky little critters.

For the weight.
Increase their exercise, gradually so as not to create some heart problems, until they are being at least twice as active as they are now. Throw a ball for them to chase to make their exercise easier on you.
Get ehm tug tys to play with each other with.
My dogs play keepaway a lot, and it keps them nice and lean.
Check the lable on their dog food and get a formula with all the nutrients for their age, but less fat.
If you are feeding one of the off-brand foods, you are probably getting a lot more fat than they would be getting in the better brands of food.
In the better brands, there are different formulas for diferent ages and levels of activity.
