Pom question...

Question
Hi,

I have a female pomeranian who is 6 months old. She is an orange sable with a black mask. She has a super cute face and a great personality however she is already 5 pounds. I REALLY had my heart set on getting a pom on the smaller end of the scale being at about 4 pounds MAX full grown. I have seen many poms that are smaller than she is now and those poms are full grown. The reason is that I carry her with me EVERYWHERE I go every single day. I even sneak her into grocery stores in the pet carrying bag I own... and into restaurants :)

I love taking her with me... but now instead of loving it... it's starting to become a hassle!

The problem is that if she's going to be 7 pounds full grown I'm not going to be able to carry her around so much anymore. Even now when carrying her after five minutes I get very painful aches in my shoulders. It doesn't seem like a lot of weight but when you are carrying around 7 pounds after a while it is!!!

I am despressed over this now... because when she was only 4 pounds or less I did NOT have this problem. I could carry her without tiring and getting serious aches and pains in my shoulders... but now as she's getting bigger it's getting to be a big hassle and my shoulders start killing me :(

I have a relative who has a pom which is 3 1/2 pounds and is smaller than my pom is right now and it's full grown. I am jelous! I won't give up my pom because she is very sweet. Plus she already costed me $2500 vet bill because my cousin broke her leg whe she dropped her! I've already put way too much money into this pom and have gotten attached to her... however I am wondering when do they STOP growing? She is 6 months old... PLEASE tell me that she is done growing size wise?... and that now she will only put on maybe another pound and gain a little weight? But that size wise she won't grow in height and length anymore will she?

I HOPE she won't grow taller and get longer lengthwise... she will only put on a little more weight from this point on, right?

I am KICKING myself because I wanted a small pom... not one that's going to grow up to be 7+ pounds! :(

Thanks.

Answer
The best person to answer your question would be your dog's breeder as he/she would be familiar with your dog's lines.

While smaller breeds do tend to mature quicker than larger ones, some lines (in all breeds) shoot up quickly and are done growing by six months, while others take many more months to mature. I cannot begin to guess which your dog might do.

Maybe it is time to consider a carrier with wheels for your little gal before you ruin your shoulders.  :)  Something along the lines of this:  http://www.coolstuffcheap.com/pet-wheel-away-soft-sided-wheeled-carrier.html  But you might not be able to take her everywhere with you then.
