Question
Hi

Could I get your opinion on this?

What would be the best age to spay a female? How many vaccines should a puppy have in her first year?

Answer
Hello, You know I can only give you my opinion.  Asking your vet, especially one that you trust is the best choice.
But, since you asked here is what I think.  I have always gotten my females spayed before their first heat. I have never had any problems from doing this.  One benefit is that the vulva is small before the first heat, once they come into heat and the vulva swells it never goes back to that small size.  And spaying early prevents the chance of having false pregnancies, and mamory tumers.

As far as vac's.  Ususally the first DHPPL is given at 8 weeks, then at 10 and 12.  At 16 weeks a rabies shot.  And the next booster and rabies is due one year later.  You should make your own decision on the lime and boardatella.

I hope this helps.  Thanks, Cindy lou :)
