Lab Mix; 11 weeks old

Question
hello.

my husband and I have just adopted a baby boy last Saturday the 7th. he is a Lab Mix and approximately 11 weeks old. eventhough he is so young, he was neutered last Tuesday, July 3rd. now we have heard that this will affect his growth and he will remain in a puppy- like state ( for example: his bark won't mature... ). is this true?

our next question is about the food. how many times per day should he be fed? we have been giving him about 1 1/3 cup of pedigree puppy in the morning and in the evening, because he always seems so hungry and finishes all his food at once.

since he is so young, would it be better to have him on a harness instead of on a leash?

thank you very much for your help,

kristina and jason lloyd

Answer
Hello Congrats on your baby boy!. I am not sure about the growth thin i have had all my dogs Spayed/neutered when they were 7 months+ because I don't think little puppies should be put through the surgery....just me some say different!. I mainly think this is the case of females the surgery is more complexe then in males. That sounds like enough but one flaw in your feeding shedual..... puppies that yong need to be fed Three times a day morning after noon and evening. I can also tell you that feeding peddigree is also not a great idea it contains alot of corn and wheat and fillers which can make for a dog that has allergies later on also cheaper foods require teh dog to eat More then if he was fed a high end food as the higher end foods are more blanced and require the dog to eat less it turn the stools are formed better easier to clean up and the puppy poops less also which helps when house breaking the puppy.  I reccomend walking a large dog on collar or head collar never on  aharrness a harness teaches the dog to pull gives them footing to pull and causes more problems then it fixes. Check into my website for more info on everything dog....it incldues feeding/exercising and much more: http://www.freewebs.com/dustycovens/index.htm
