QuestionI have a 13 almost 14 yr old Lab-rott mix male dog.He is in good health for his age but recently has begun urine leakage. The diapers help with that but now his urine has developed a strong fishy smell any ideas what it might be and what can help? Thankyou for any information.
AnswerHi Lisa,
Foul or unusual odor of the urine can occur in the presence of bacteria. A strong smelling urine is common with a bladder infection, or "Cystitis".
You should have your dog examined by your vet. Analysis of your dog's urine will confirm the diagnosis. If Cystitis is the problem, treatment is usually a few weeks on antibiotics.
Best of luck,
