Question
What is the best age to start training a young setter?

Answer
Hi Stanley-
It's hard to say with such little info.  So much depends on the dogs attitude, maturity level, attention span etc.  I suggest starting my GSP's at 6-8 months.  Usually at this age, they are able to retain the training and have the attention span to learn/reinforce what they know.  I'm assuming that you're talking about formal training also, and not yard work.  If you're asking about yard work, then as soon as the dog knows his name you can start...just make sure you keep it short (5-10 minutes MAX) and fun.
Good luck,
