Dog scared of walking up stairs

Question
I recently adopted Jake a one year old blk lab from the animal shelter.  He is very polite and loves attention, however he is very scared of walking up the apartment stairs(the kind you can see through).  I have tried several training techniques like encouraging him and putting a treat on each step.  Nothing seems to work.  Can you please help me???

Thank You

Answer
Hi Albert;
I have Acrophobia, ( fear of heights), and I HATE that type of stairs.
I feel like I am going to slip through them.
I get the same feeling as I do on any height where I feel insecure.
Dogs can have other fears like we have, maybe your dog is afraid of heights.
I am niot sure you can get him out of it.
I know what caused my fear of heights, and have done what you are supposed to do for over 50 years, going on heights to prove I can do it.
It hasn't helped me one whit.
I am wondering if massage would help.
I get dogs over fear of thunder and timidity, aggression, and other things like that.
One thing though. Learning how to do the massages will come in handy as he ages, and has Arthritis and other infirmatives large dogs usually have.
Go to this site and read about this method of animal massage.
The ranchers who have high dollar breeding stock have a massage therapist come once a month and massage their prize animals. Race horse owners do too.
There is a lot of benefit to learning the massages.
Almost all the dogs I have had are troubled with Arthritis when they get into their last years, and I have been able to ease their pain and give them more mobility and comfort and help them live longer with this Tellington Touch method of animal massage.
That is the only thing I can think of that might help.
You can read about what can be done with the massages here, and order the video to learn how to do the massage.
You might be able to email them and ask if they have any experience with such a fer.
They have been in this for a long time, I imagine they have come across almost every problem there is.

Sure hope you can get some answers from them, or the massages help.
I wish I could suggest more things to try.
