Crate traing an adopted Beagle

I adopted a Beagle that is two years old, and he is scared to go into his crate. I'm not sure on how his previous owners treated him before. So I was wondering if it is still possible to crate train him. I was also wondering about If there is a way to make it so he will not go on the sofa. Thank you for your time.

Well what you can try with the crate is to hide little treats under blankets ect and then close him in,just for a few minutes at a time,then gradually increase the time in the crate

As for keeping him off of your sofa,attach a leash to him,and let him drag it,and when he jumps up on the sofa 'guide' him off of it with the leash and say 'off'
