Question
my puppy has a bump on the roof of his mouth. i also had a dog before this that had the same problem. just a small bump in the middle of his mouth, looks like a tooth pokin through. middle of mouth towards the front by gums. my other dog was hit by car and i never knew what the bump was. what is happening?

Answer
Hi Nick,

Was your puppy chewing on something, such as a bone or stick that may have caused an irritation on the roof of his mouth?

The tiny bump might be a blocked minor saliva gland or vesicle (viral infection) or reaction to minor trauma (such as a bone or stick).

From time to time you should examine the lump to see if it's getting larger, or if it changes in any way. If you notice changes, you shouldn't put off seeing your vet.

It's up to you whether you want to take your dog to the vet now, or wait to see if the bump goes away on it's own. If the lump is still present in a few weeks, have your vet take a look at it. If it's viral infection your dog will need medication.

I hope I've been a help.
Best of luck,

Patti
