Olderdog/puppy

I have an older (12 yrs.) dog..Labadore/chow mix. She is not friendly towards other animals. She was once with our other dog (sharpia) who passed away about 4 yrs ago. We adopted a puppy (6-8 weeks)bull terrier, my question is how can I get the older dog to accept th puppy?

Introduce them slowly, in a way that you have control, so if the older dog will not accept the puppy, she can't hurt it.
Have you had her around a baby one?
She may not like other dogs, but may accept a puppy readily.
Only way to know, if to create a situation where she can see the puppy and smell it, but doesn't have a chance to hurt it.
