Behavior towards Our New Baby

Question
Nancy,

We have a 4-1/2 month old baby. From the very first day we brought him home our dog, Marcie, has wanted nothing to do with him. She doesn't growl at him unless you put him too close to Marcie. Marcie  has always been a spoiled dog and she still is. My husband and I have treated her just the same as we always have and yet, she doesn't seem to like the baby at all. Marcie will not go anywhere near the baby. Occasionally to sniff the baby but that's all.

What do you think the problem is and should I be worried? I'd hate to have to get rid of Marcie.

Answer
Lauren..unfortunately, if you had asked us before the baby came, we could have tested the dog to see that this was going to happen...at any rate...you need to get the dog some obedience. That is the first step. This may or may not help. Some dogs are that way with kids. Some get used to it and some dont. Obedience is a good start.. It may change the dog by allowing her to see you are the boss. Sorry I can not give you more of a definate answer
