Question
my dogs eye gets a little green gunk in his eye it goes away and then comes back does he need medication?

Answer
If the mucous in his eyes are green or yellow than yes he probably needs an eye antibiotic ointment, many different types of dog breeds are more prone to eye infections than others due to the shape and the size of skin and eyelid surrounding the eye. You can probably take a clean washrag and sterile water to daily clean his eyes being careful to use a clean area of the washrag each time you wipe his eyes to prevent spending infection. Also get an eye medication from your vet and ask him if the type of breed dog you have is prone to eye infection.  Dogs can also have seasonal allergies or food allergies (cheese, dairy products, certain meat products) that can irritate their eyes and lead to infection. If your dog has allergies your doctor can probably tell upon examining his eyes, skin and ears and provide allergy medication and treatment.  Good Luck, Sincerely, Angela
