Question
I have a female from Lansing and I can't get the two dogs to breed. The female with stand in front of my male and flag and he will walk past her like she didn't exist. She wants to breed and he won't even touch her. The first day she was here we left them alone and he did very good he was trying to mount and she was standing still and everything, but now he won't mount her. As far as I know they haven't tied. He woudn't loose interest even if they did tie would he?

Answer
It is hard to say what the problem could be. She could have finished ovulating but is still flagging anyway; a good stud dog will know the difference and no longer try breeding the bitch. When you left them alone, she might not have been quite ready and told him off in no uncertain terms and now he refuses to have anything to do with her. And maybe she just isn't ready quite yet. No, he shouldn't lose interest even if they have tied... if she is still breedable.

And maybe the male just isn't mentally ready to breed a bitch. Sometimes they just need to grow up a bit more.

You could have your vet run a smear or a progesterone test (more accurate) on the bitch to determine where she is in her cycle. You might have to do an AI.
