Question
My male Rottie got my next door neighbors collie pregnant. there are 9 pups. we have talked to him about the pups and he told us he wants $300/pup. should he sell them for that he will make $2700 off are dog. we told him that we should get a stud fee and or pick of the litter. What should I do? and should we get a stud fee or pick of the litter which we don't really want. Because it's not pure breed.

Answer
Shame on him for trying to make money on a breeding at all. If he raises those pups as he should he won't make anything. Deworming should begin at two weeks and repeat every two weeks for duration that he has the pups. Vaccinations should begin with Neopar at three weeks, bronchiosept at four weeks (or vice versa) five way at six weeks and every two weeks thereafter. Pups should be checked daily for fleas etc, bathed every week beginning at four weeks. Dew claws should be removed at three days of age. Vet visit at six weeks. Advertising for the litter,. screening for an appropriate home, and this mix will NEED screening for an appropriate home more than some others might. Hopefully he will be responsible in doing these things and placing the litter correctly. A $200 adoption fee with an offer of $$ back for spay/neuter is much more appropriate. As for a stud fee, if he plans on charging money for these pups, and is going to make a profit somehow then perhaps you should benefit in some way. However I find it personally offensive that he would try to do so or even think about it, and hopefully so do you.
