Question
Hello Cindy,
I have a 9 year old broder Collie/Chow mix with a beautifully balck coat.  Well it used to be beautiful coat.  I took her to the groomer where she has gone in the past to get her shaved down for the summer (she went in July 06). After 6months her coat usually comes in perfect getting ready for winter, but this time, her coat looks horrible, like a razor burn, it's down to her brown color skin, with no black hair growing,  She has 1 half cirlce around her neck. another one by her shoulder blades, another one by the atart of her tail and then one on each side of her tail.. With some areas growing hair in patches.  She looks horrible. My question "Is their anything I can do to get rid of the patches, or to get her hair start growing again"? I think her butt, and back area is a bit tender, but I wanted to know if their is anything I can do, maybe shaver her again.  If you can helkp that would be great. Thanks

Answer
Hello Rebecca, I had a similar problem with my Himalayan cat.  I shave him year round in a lion's clip.  He is 7 years old and twice and only twice his hair grew back as you described, patchy and sparse in some places and normal in others.  What I did each time was shave him again, basically starting over and it did in both times grow back  normal as usual all over.  Try this and if it does not work out then I would probably get a skin scraping to make sure the dog did not contract any mites or possible mange.  This can happen if your groomer does not maintain her blades in between dog groomings.  Mites and mange can be transferred from the blades from dog to dog.  This I hope is not the case, however if it is it is treatable using "Adams Flea Dip"  it will kill most mites and mange.  Do which ever option you feel necessary.  Good luck, and Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
