Question
I have a 2year old male pitbull and i want to bring in a 2 year 3year old female German shepherd mix. Is that a good idea or is there anything i should know before i bring her home? Also the shepherd was living with another shepherd mix and he just past should i give her time? There both hyper dogs. Is this a good mix?

Answer
It is hard to say.  Much of it depends on the individual personality of the dogs.  At that age most dogs still enjoy rough play.  As long as both are fixed, usually a male and female is the combination least likely to cause problems.  The better leadership you give them, the better.

The key The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
