jack russel breeding

Question
I have a jack Russell terrier that is approximately 2 1/2 years old and we have recently breed her to another jack Russell, this would be the second attempt, it was 3 weeks ago and she hasn't really shown yet and I was wondering if its too soon to tell or if there are changes in behavior that I would see to tell if she is pregnant or not?

The last time we tried she did not take and it was very disappointing I'm starting to wonder if shes just not fertile or the stud is not fertile.

Answer
Hi Brooke,

Early pregnancy signs can be hard to be detect.  Some dogs may become have a lack of appetite in the first weeks or may have a little morning sickness, just as some women get in early pregnancy. A slight decrease of activity may also be seen as the bitch goes through all the hormonal changes. Nipple growth as well is an early sign, the nipples will appear slightly larger.

I would recommend that the best option is to take your dog to your vet. He or she will be able to tell you whether your dog is pregnant at an early stage.

Best of luck,

Patti
