Question
We have a 9 month old female cockapoo.  We started feeding her twice a day, but lately I've reduced to once a day, because she leaves food in the bowl.  I give her a mixture of hard (Beneful puppy) and a little canned food (Pedigree), mixed with a little warm water.  She always seems like she's hungry.  She walks around the kitchen searching for any crumb and licking the floor and sometimes the carpet.  When we put her food out, she goes up to it, sniffs it, then walks away and lays down.  We cannot figure out what the problem is.  I have changed flavors at times.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  She doesn't appear to be unhealthy, but she usually looks hungry, but prefers the "floor" food to dog food.  Help!

Answer
Barry,
not all dogs will eat everyday, my beagle, Daisy, when I first got her would only eat once every other day this was at 8 weeks. I worried that her lack of eating would be a problem. I did many things to get her to eat, finally I just realized that this was her eating routine, and made sure she was not loosing weight, and that did it for me. there are many variables in the way that dogs eat, from the taste and texture of the food to the nutritional value, there are also variables when a dogs eats. it sounds like you may have a dog that needs to work for its food, you could try hiding the food dish and letting your dog find it. or feeding by using toys like the Kong, or any one of the many options out there. Beneful is a decent dog food as is pedigree(which is what I feed). I hope this helps ease your mind about feeding your cockapoo.
