Im dont know what my dog is trying to say..

I have a neutered, 7 year old, mostly inside, dog. I only took him to the dog park twice one time he was very good with the other dogs and the other time he was really scared of this female poodle/mix and they started to fight. I am not sure if I should take him again, and every time he sees a dog his hair on his back stands up and he starts whinning. I really want him to get along with other dogs, what should I do?

Melody, it sounds like your dog either did not receive proper socialization as a puppy, or has had some kind of traumatic experience that has made him fearful of other dogs. I would not take him back to the dog park until you have worked with a trainer to address his fear issues, and the trainer thinks it is okay.
