grass eating puppy

i just got 2 new puppies as of today feb. 5 they are 4 weeks and 4 days old. the mother would not feed them so we are giving them puppy milk and nutri-cal and they love it. but when we take them outside to go they eat grass constantly. is that bad for them at such a young age? i hope you can help. Thanks -miranda

I have very little experience with puppies that young.  I think the grass will be Ok as long as they don't eat so much they throw up.  

You should be able to transition them to puppy chow now.  Start with dry, but soak it down into a mush at first.  If they won't lap it up, use you finger to transfer it to their mouth.  In a couple of weeks, they may be eating as much as a half cup of dry each of 3 times a day.  slowly increase it maintaining good body condition, see http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx
