groomer sedatives?

Question
Hello.  I hope this message finds you well.
I have a question regarding my dog's grooming.  We drop off my cockapoo in the morning to be groomed and they call  us in the afternoon when he is finished to be picked up.  Yet, when we pick him up he seems VERY lathargic and not himself.  Usually when we come home from school/work his tail is wagging and he kisses us to show his affection.  However, up to a few hours of bringing Comet back from the groomers, he mopes around the house, lays in his bed, and seems just 'out of it'.  Any way the groomer may be giving him some type of tranquilizer or sedative? And if so, shouldn't they be asking our permission for this?
Any and all ideas would really be appreciated!
Thank you,
Kristin

Answer
Hello Kristin.

There is a slight possibility that the groomer could be giving your dog sedatives, but yes, they should be asking your permission. Alot of groom shops will not take a dog under any sort of sedation, so it would just seem weird for one to be GIVING the dogs a sedative without the owners permission. I think that what the problem is here, is that Comet is not a big fan of grooming, and he gets comfortable in his hair, and then when they shave it all off, he feels naked, and not so comfortable anymore. Therefore he will feel out if sorts, and act that way too. In my experience of grooming, it is not very common for a cocker to like grooming, so I am thinking Comet is not very different! If this is the case, just lots of TLC for little Comet after the groomers, should make him feel more secure. I would ask the groomers if they use sedatives. If you have any doubts about the groomers that you take Comet too, make sure you go find a new groomer!! Good luck to you and Comet!
