Question
My girl is 14 and has a combo renal/heart failure problems. She takes yucky medicine for both conditions. Her diet consisted of KD kibbles then I switched to KD cans. She won't eat either. What can I make her at home that won't make her renal problems worse?
She is now taking a pill to increase her appetite but it hasn't worked. She is hungry. I made her a scrambled egg and she ate the whole thing. Can you suggest something to make in case she won't eat another brand?

Answer
Hi Denise,
Ok, I am not a vet nor a certified nutritionist so all I can do is suggest things that have worked for me in the past. I have zero EGO involved here and simply want to help you if I can.

Since your girl does not have pancreatic problems have you considered NATURE'S VARIETY FROZEN MEDALLIONS. My dogs find them IRRESISTABLE. I, however, sort of defeat the purpose of the intent of Nature's Variety (meant to be eaten RAW, which I cannot bring myself to do) because I lightly steam the medallions. Two of my dogs were quite ill with little appetite before I tried this food and now both eat very well. CAn you dog chew? If so, go to my link and order a free sample of Life Abundance by Healthy Pet Net..most dogs LOVE this kibble which is very teeny. It is holistic and very fresh from production to plate.

At home, you could find a store that sells organic chicken or beef and lightly steam that for your baby. It's not particularly healthy but some people sprinkly a little parmesan cheese on their food and the dogs really like that. AT 14, I think your priority is appetite and not particularly rigid health issues so try these. Keep in mind I didn't say chicken and rice...this is not a good solution for a dog. If you use Turkey do not use the skin. YOu could also try one of the Unique foods out there ...say, by Evanger. Evanger"s and WEllness have novel protein foods such as VEnison and Rabbit and your dog might LOVE the new taste. AFter all Dogs are carnivores.

Hope this provided some suggestions for you. If you do write back or have other questions, you may use my own email address: DazzlinDaawg@aol.com
