Question
my 10 yr old miniature schnauzer suddenly stopped eating about 10 days ago. he was regularly eating hill prescription g/d wet and kibble. The first few days we tried putting the food down then taking it away until dinner time. this did not work. He also had thrown up twice both with grass in it. He has not vomited since. but also will not eat his food. Out of desperation we started feeding him basic food chicken, turkey carrots, scrambled eggs and even corn flakes with milk which he will eat. We also attempt to feed him his food         without success. We took him to the vet who said he noticed a murmur and suggested he could have pancreatitis. He gave him a antibiotic shot and oral to take twice daily for 14 days. He is not showing signs of pain or fatigue and is playful and alert. What do you think is going on?

Answer
Work with your vet.  Did he caution you on his diet?  You need to be very careful of what you feed a dog with pancreatits.  He really needs to be eating a dog chow and very little else.  Dogs eat better if they are lean, and have fewer other problems.  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest.  You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them.  Each dog is
different.  Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog
must have its food adjusted to its individual needs. Here is a link to a good illustrated guide, http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx
