House Training Shih Tzu

Question
My 12 week old Shih Tzu seems to be house trained for the most part. He is crate trained. To be let outside, he will go to the door and look at one of us. He does not bark.
The problem is that he seems to want to go out every 45 minutes or so. We are concerned that if we are out of the house for an extended period and he is not in the crate he will end up relieving himself in the house. (He has had a couple of accidents).

Answer
You need to actually put him on a schedule instead of allowing him to put you on a schedule.  Only take him outside right now to potty at scheduled times (20 minutes after meals, right after naps, before bedtime at night and upon rising in the morning) take him to the same place each time to do his business.  He is going to the door because he may just be wanting to play and has learned that this is where he goes to also get attention and freedom from his kennel.  So, when it is play time keep him in a different area, exercise him on a walk, in a different area of the yard, or inside the home.  Always reward him for his accomplishments before placing him back in his kennel.  Hope this helps and remember it will take some time he is just a baby so be patient.  Good Luck
