Male Shih Tzu pee stinks

Our 4 year old male Shih Tzu has got to have the worse smelling pee, probably worse than a cats. When he pees outside and we try to sit outside in the swing the smell is unbearable. What could be the problem? We feed him Chicken Soup--For the Dog lovers soul--and he has plenty of fresh water on hand. Help...it really stinks! We don't have this problem with our female.

Urine has a characteristic smell that varies slightly by species and concentration of the sample.  A particularly foul odor may occur in the presence of bacteria. Thus, strong smelling urine is common in cases of cystitis.  Tzu males at this age are also at high risk of developing stones.  It is important to take him in to your vet to have him checked.
