Question
QUESTION: Our 6 year old shih tzu just got diagnosed with a ruptured disk, he has been kenneled for the last 2 1/2 weeks and has been taking an anti-inflammatory pain medication. what is the normal length of time that shih tzu's need to be kenneled for this condition, and when can we expect him back to normal?

ANSWER: Hi Carla,  It takes time to heal. I am sure some of the swelling is starting to be reduced by the medications and general rest.
It can be up to 6 weeks before this little one is able to start ball play and jumps.
You need to talk with the Vet about exercise and mobility.  There will be certain goals as the weeks progress.

If you want to add some good Supplements, herbs and oils to the program, let me know.
We can help to PREVENT this from future ruptures and injuries.
Poor little Shih Tzu!

Let me know if you want more help:

I would need to know what foods you are using ?
Also, what his weight is?
Are you using any supplements?

QUESTION: no we have not been told of any supplements to take, he was just coming off a case of Rabdo, where the muscles are breaking down before the ruptured disk happened.  since he was on pills for that, he has become very smart about not eating things we once put medication in.  And then once the pain started he wouldn't eat much. The only thing I can really get him to eat is my spaghetti! I know he has lost weight especially in his back leg area he is looking especially thin. We haven't talked about goals for him. I just love the little guy so much I am willing to do whatever to help him heal as quickly and painlessly as possible. Thank You
