QuestionHI , I have a 1 year old shih tzu.He is my first dog and he hasn't been fixed
Recently i took him to the vet for a regular check up. Only one if his testicles
has descended. I actually have a couple of questions : is this going to be a
problem in the future? should I fix him? and why? is there the possibility that
the other testicle will eventually descend?? thanks
AnswerHello Gisselle, I suggest you have your little one neutered. This is a genetic problem and he could pass it onto his puppies.
So, he should not father any pups..
Sorry, but this does happen.
Cryptorchidism-During development before birth, the testicles migrate from the abdomen into the scrotum. Normally this is complete by 10 days of age. Cryptorchidism means that one or both of a dog's testicles have not descended into the scrotum. If this does not happen by 8 weeks, the dog is generally diagnosed as cryptorchid, although the testicles may still descend up to 4 months or so.
