Question
Our shih tzu Mr Boo all of a sudden started yelping like he was in extreme pain then he quit breathing!!!  there was nothing in his throat. he just became limp and stopped breathing. We tried to give him CPR on the way to the vet and his little belly would rise with each breath we blew into him , but he did not make  it!!  NO POISONS, nothing  he could have eaten -we were right there with him?? Please tell me what do you think happend??? He was just checked AT THE VET AND RECEIVED HIS RABIES SHOT 3 MONTHS AGO . EVEN MY VET IS STUNNED!

Answer
Oh No!  I am sooooo sorry for your loss!

I would have said a collapsed trachea but the CPR did prove you were getting air into him.  ( his belly was rising and falling)

I hope your vet will figure something for you.. Sounds like cardiac related... ( heart attack)

Do you know if this little one has been from a good blood line with NO interbreeding of bloodlines?  Do you know his history and background at all?

Ask your vet to check for this Blood Clot disease called:
von Willebrand Disease... Here is a link:

I hope he took a sample of blood from your baby... it may help others learn about disorders that can hit this breed.

Wish I could help more.  This is very rare and very sad for you.  I am sure Mr. Boo will be well remembered by your family.
You may want to have him CREAMATED and you can keep him in a fancy urn or plant a tree and sprinkly his ashes.
When we had our dog creamated we sprinkled his ashes on a favority walking path...

Sorry for your loss,
