QuestionI have a 6 month old male pug. In the past 2 weeks he has started to suck on his penis. He is do it obsessively. People have told me this can cause an infection! He is crated during the day, but he has plenty of exercise and attention. I have tried every chew toy, snack and yelling at him and/or putting him in the crate... What can I do? Is it O.K. to just let him go? Will he grow out of it?
AnswerI just got another thought. Have you tried a belly band on him? It is a wide band of fabric with velcro on each end that you can use to cover his "business". You usually pug a sanitary napkin on the belly band over his penis so that is they lift a leg, they will urinate onto the pad. You may be able to cover this penis, taking it off to go out and potty, long enough to distract him from his habit.
Wow! You have me stumped on this one. This is more a behavioral problem then a pug issue. Have you checked with your vet? How old was he when you got him? I am wondering if he was weaned too early. I think he may be bored and need more stimulation. Can you take him on long walks and maybe an obedience class? He may need a companion to play with.
