medical problems

Question
Whenever it comes up in a conversation that I want to one day own a pug (I've loved them for ages), everyone always immediately argues that they ALWAYS have bad medical problems, I guess with breathing.

I think, but am not sure, that not every pug has bad breathing problems? Or do they usually have them?

Answer
Give those Nay sayers a big old "RASPBERRY"!!! Pugs snore and snort, sneeze and snuffle but if they did not breath ok they would not be alive. Some have stenotic nares (very tiny nostril openings) and they can be easily clipped by your vet and it opens those little noses right up.

Also, they tend to have elongated palettes in their throat and some need laser surgery for that and some do not. It just comes with the smushed face breed.

Pugs are a very old breed, dating back to before 400 BC. ANY purebred dog is going to have issues related to the breed. ANY living creature is going to have some kind of issue because it is a living creature...how many times have these nay sayers been to their doctor?

Some of our pugs have minor health issues that require them to go to the vet on a regular basis and others just go for an annual checkup with nothing ever wrong...just like people.

Get a pug from a rescue, not a breeder, and love it to pieces. You will not be sorry you did.
